Super, Sunny, SeaQuest

Super, Sunny, SeaQuest

Super, Sunny, SeaQuest was just that, a quest. New cloud shapes, grids, large jetty-like areas of deep blue, shaped canvases and the spaghetti approach with more focus and restraint.

My studio shares an alley with the back door and drop off for the Salvation Army second hand shop. Retro furniture, glassware, and used kids clothes scatter the alley, either discarded as junk, or hoping for a second chance at a family. One evening a simple navy and white horizontal striped child’s tee shirt became the anchor of this collection. This simple pattern, stirred ideas of the nautical, I have lived by water but, surely have no sea-legs, so for me the Breton stripes brought up memories of a kid learning about love on the romantic voyages with Gopher, Doc and Captain Merrill Stubing on the dreamy decks of The Love Boat or the sandy beaches of Fantasy Island.

Kibbles and Bytes

Kibbles and Bytes

Kibbles and Bytes is a body of work that developed like a spaghetti dinner; I collected a lot of ideas, stirred them up and things were bubbling then threw them to the wall and saw what stuck. Sticky!

Growing up, I was a kid who indulged in television and never spent hours building LEGO cities or setting up battles with little green army men. As an adult, making these paintings I got to work backwards, tapping into whimsical, creative exuberance and reconcile it with the painter/receptionist now in front of my phone screen looking for Mr. Right.

Kibbles and Bytes is a scrapbook of doodles and daydreams from a pre-teen girl to a modern miss in a technological Tinder affair. Fluffy, plump, cloud shapes, dots with loose and tight areas of mark-making adventures with mass-made polka dot table cloths and nostalgia of birthday parties past.

Mixed media collage, deconstructing and reconstructing canvases created a place where play and experimentation are looped in a time-scape with no end or beginning to tickle and tease the viewer and free myself from the constraints of representational painting.
